Multitasking Solar Coming To Sa
Australia's first floating solar power plant is anticipated to be installed and functional by April.

The South Australian effort is about to begin construction, and will be located on the Jamestown wastewater treatment facility in the mid-north of the state.

The plant is designed to benefit both the water treatment facilities and their power usage - by absorbing the sunlight and heat into the panels instead of the water, evaporation rates will be reduced up to 90%.

By placing the panels on top of water, they will keep each other cooler; increasing panel efficiency from ground-mounted panels by some 57%, and reducing growth of problematic blue-green algae.

The power produced by the new plant is expected to generate enough power to support the facility, as well as produce flow-on to the township of Jameson.

Floating solar plants have been successful in France and South Korea, but the South Australian addition is pegged to be an improved model. This follows an industry-wide push of adoption rates in commercial and industrial markets.
